Anaerobic sealants are characteristically very rigid, hard adhesives which work well in compression, torsion and shear but are notoriously brittle and unsuitable in applications where there could be peel or cleavage forces. When bonding dissimilar metals where differential expansion and contraction could be an issue (especially over a broad temperature range or where there is sudden thermal shock), a regular anaerobic adhesive may struggle to flex to accommodate this change in dimension, but not Permabond F201 – toughened, flexible, anaerobic sealant!
Permabond F201 contains a unique rubber toughening system, which makes it flexible enough to cope in applications where there are high peel stresses, thermal shock or differential expansion and contraction issues. Typical peel strength of F201 on aluminium is 100 N/25mm – a normal anaerobic sealant would be less than a tenth of that.
Permabond F201 is a firm favourite with boiler manufacturers, copper cylinder manufacturers and installers, and is ideal for use on copper and brass pipework connections, even when bonded to other metals. It avoids having to weld, braze or solder, is much easier to achieve leak free joints without any pin prick weld hole issues and there is no need for a naked flame or high-risk process.
Other benefits of Permabond F201 include:
If the viscosity of F201 does not meet your requirements, a lower viscosity grade is available (Permabond F200), or a higher viscosity version (Permabond F202).
