Valve Adhesives and Sealants
Permabond has a long history of supplying adhesives and sealants for valve bonding – indeed, this is one of the first areas that we specialized in! Our adhesives are used to lock bolts and form gaskets in many different types of valves.
We’ll give a brief overview of some of these applications below, but for a more in-depth look at some of our valve bonding applications, please feel free to refer to our product brochure on this very topic.
Which adhesives to use in valve bonding?
Since threadlocking tends to be the most common bonding application required in valves, we most often use anaerobic adhesives in this field. As an example available in our brochure, we use Permabond HM129 on the hand wheel stem of globe valves to permanently lock bolts into place. MM115 and A1042 are subsequently used to lock the stuffing box bolts and bonnet bolts. All of the above adhesives are threadlockers in our anaerobic adhesives range.
However, with this said, we also use cyanoacrylates in valve bonding. Besides offering a strong bond, these also cure very quickly, making them particularly useful in busy production lines. Furthermore, their room temperature cure means no special production conditions are needed. As an example, you can use Permabond 102 to threadlock the plastic screws and nuts on electrical ball valves. An anaerobic wouldn’t suit such an application because they only bond metal.
Our adhesives can also be used to form in-place gaskets, for example in gate valve sealing. Permabond LH197 is a flexible adhesive that seals the bonnet and forms the mating gaskets in these valves. All of the above examples are available in our product brochure, so please see there for further information. Should you need any help with your application, feel free to get in touch with us.
