About Diamond Bonding Adhesives

Diamond bonding adhesives must be rugged. Because diamond is the hardest known natural material on earth, various industries use it for cutting tools. Consequently, the adhesive bonds must be high strength, vibration resistant, chemical resistant, and temperature resistant.

Featured Product: Permabond ES550

  • Excellent adhesive strength
  • Excellent resistance to vibration
  • Easy to use – no mixing required
  • High shear and peel strength
  • Good impact strength
  • High-temperature resistance
  • Good resistance to chemicals

PERMABOND® ES550 is a single-part diamond bonding adhesive. It is an epoxy paste that is slump-resistant (does not flow) during cure. This toughened adhesive has maximum impact resistance, as well as excellent peel and shear strength. ES550 is ideal for bonding a wide range of materials, including metals, ferrites, ceramics, composites, and diamonds.

Directions for Use

  1. First, cut the nozzle to give the appropriately sized bead to cover the bond area
  2. Then dispense the adhesive from the cartridge via the nozzle.
  3. Apply the adhesive to one surface so as to avoid entrapping air.
  4. Assemble parts, then apply sufficient pressure to ensure the adhesive spreads to cover the entire bond area.
  5. Use a jig/clamp to prevent parts from moving during cure.
  6. Do not disturb the joint until the adhesive is fully cured.
  7. Cure with heat; the following are some cure schedule options.
  • 130° C (266°F): 75 minutes
  • 150°C (300°F): 60 minutes
  • 170°C (338°F): 40 minutes
